A Second Look | Iraqi Forces Assume Control Over Cities From US Troops

via Iraqi Forces Assume Control Over Cities From US Troops

BAGHDAD — AP Iraqi forces assumed formal control of Baghdad and other cities Tuesday after American troops handed over security in urban areas in a defining step toward ending the U.S. combat role in the country. A countdown clock broadcast on Iraqi TV ticked to zero as the midnight deadline passed for U.S. combat troops to finish their pullback to bases outside cities.

(snip)In a ceremony rich with symbolism, the top U.S. military commander in Baghdad, Maj. Gen. Daniel Bolger, gave his Iraqi counterpart the keys to the former defense ministry building, which had served as a joint base.

(snip)The withdrawal, required under a U.S.-Iraqi security pact, marks the first major step toward withdrawing all American forces from the country by Dec. 31, 2011. Obama has said all combat troops will be gone by the end of August 2010.

Bush and McCain - Warmongers

Iraq will soon be over. This is another major step to freeing the United States from the dictatorial oppression of George W. Bush. Bush’s war for oil cost more lives than was taken on 9/11, one of many excuses Bush used to “stay the course” in Iraq.

We will stay the course set by Obama now, ending this six year nightmare.

I am sad that this celebration in Iraq isn’t front page news all over the world. It should be.

This is a big deal! Don’t let it go unnoticed!

A Second Look | Obama Sharpens His Reminders That He Inherited Fiscal ‘Mess’ From Bush – washingtonpost.com

via Obama Sharpens His Reminders That He Inherited Fiscal ‘Mess’ From Bush – washingtonpost.com.

In his inaugural address, President Obama proclaimed “an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics.”

(snip)Over the past month, Obama has reminded the public at every turn that he is facing problems “inherited” from the Bush administration…

If this author is saying that “an end to petty grievances” is a campaign

promise, I have only one thing to say about that: weak. The truth is, I distinctly remember Candidate Obama during a campaign that lasted nearly two years lambasting the failed policies of George W. Bush at every turn. Once Senator McCain became the presumptive Republican nominee, Candidate Obama never missed an opportunity to remind Americans that John McCain supported almost every single one of those failed policies.

Now that the media has weighed in by blaming Obama of breaking a campaign promise by using a half-baked perception of a broken promise that he never made in the first place, they should  tell the truth about the “mess” that Obama keeps speaking of and affix the blame for it squarely on the ones responsible for it – the Republican Party and George W. Bush.

True to form, the very last thing the author of this terrible bad article leaves you with is the thoughts and opinion of the right-wing echo chamber:

Host Chris Wallace asked on “Fox News Sunday” this month, “Can this now fairly be called the Obama bear market?”

House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) said, “I want to take the president at his word that he wants to work on these problems plaguing American families,” adding that “people are looking for leadership.”

“It is the Obama economy and the Obama stock market,” Cantor said. “This is about today, and he’s assumed his post.”

Why? Why do they consistently remind us of the illogical and sometimes jaw-dropping wrong opinions of those that helped the Bush Administration ruin this country? (When things turn around, I’m coming back to Cantor’s statement here.)

A Second Look | Bobby Jindal Speech Text: Criticizes Obama, Both Parties

via Bobby Jindal Speech Text: Criticizes Obama, Both Parties.

From the text of Bobby Jindal’s rebuttal to President Obama:

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal

“Democratic leaders say their legislation [stimulus] will grow the economy. What it will do is grow the government, increase our taxes down the line, and saddle future generations with debt. Who among us would ask our children for a loan, so we could spend money we do not have, on things we do not need? That is precisely what the Democrats in Congress just did. It’s irresponsible. And it’s no way to strengthen our economy, create jobs, or build a prosperous future for our children.

What George W. Bush and the Republican congress did was to grow the government and saddle future generations with more debt  than all the other Presidents in history combined. Bush began his presidency with a huge surplus, now the deficit ceiling is over $11 trillion. Each year’s budget shortfalls under Bush were over $400 billion. Bush expanded the government. He borrowed and spent like a drunken sailor.

Saying that the stimulus will increase taxes down the line is a stinking lie, and proves Jindal never read the bill. The stimulus bill does not increase taxes. The stimulus bill gave America its biggest tax cut in the history of the United States.

He also has gone back to Reagan and is preaching smaller government at a time when we are in dire need of government help. His references to “smaller government” prove he is out of touch with the people and is relying on failed policies of the past to take us into tomorrow.
