Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which began last Saturday, has been carried out exclusively by air and by sea. After a day of heavy rain, the weather improved Thursday, and military analysts said Israeli tanks and other vehicles massed on Gaza’s border could more easily enter the territory.
“The forces are there, and they’re ready for anything,” said an Israeli military spokeswoman, Maj. Avital Leibovich.
Israel’s exact objectives in Gaza remain unclear.
That is an understatement. So far, Israel’s response to Hamas attacks has been akin to the unlikely situation where the United States would come under attack by Jamaican low tech, unguided rockets. They are undoubtedly putting on a show, but fail to understand that they are simultaneously creating more hate and division.
This is a situation that should not have happened, sort of like the Iraqi occupation only smaller. Israel has the power to bring an immediate peace and a lasting peace if only they would stop the oppression of their fellow countrymen.
